Milton Bradley, Talented, Disturbed, Fantasy Enigma
For the fifth year in a row the California Sea Otter, my Fantasy Baseball team, is “blessed” with Milton Bradley. Over the years [at times], I’ve been able to ride the streaky, emotional, talented [five tools], injury-prone, misunderstood, understood all too well, disturbed Bradley for weeks at a time.
2009? No streaks to ride so far. I’ve drafted, released, reacquired and released him time and time again. He now looms on my bench, once again at the ready. I know that breakout time is coming. Today, I have a hunch, and I’m playing him. I’ll sit the steady Michael Cuddyer.
Here’s an image of Milton as an Oakland Athletic. I wonder if Billy Beane would like him back. He’d look really good in green and gold, again.
K-Rod’s Back Troubles Playing Havoc With My Sunday
K-Rod was taken to the hospital after experiencing severe back spasms for the second time yesterday.
It’s Sunday, my fucking Sunday, and not only is it too cold to go to the A’s game, but the aforementioned news re. the New York Mets closer gives me an unwanted, “Nostradamus- like” glance into their immediate future. Naussia looms, I fear.
JJ Putz assumes the role of closer. The former Sea Otter has not adjusted well to his role as set-up man, and/or New York. I fear the later, and that worries me. Mets fans are somewhat more forgiving than Yankee rooters, but only a bit more.
Some players [performers] excel in the gigantic spotlight, others wind up in the Clevelands of the Baseball woild. Funny, earlier in the week Putz had been rumored to be going to just that Ohio town for a Carlos Delgado [Are you hep to his hip problems, or like me, hep to the hop?] fill-in.
The thought of another Mets baseball season going down the tube because of injuries, sucks. I’m about to go back to sleep and wake up at 4:20… or set my clock ahead. The reason for the stupid ass grin in the imageĀ bellow, I just found out that shortstop Jose Reyes will be back Monday against the Nationals, and I was able to set the clock, pictured in the upper right hand corner, forward [never straight]. :-)
A Day At The Ballpark
Yesterday morning I ventured across the bay to SF, home of the former NY Giants. They played, and were beaten by, the current National Leaguers playing with New York on their road uniform. My brother in-law emeritus, Tom Kopazc, and I once watched Ed Halicki throw a no hitter against the Metsies in this very city. But that was at “your father’s yard.” The Giants now play at ATT Park, a gem of a structure, inside and out.
Here’s our hero in front of the Willie Mays statue…
… and some I took on the inside, including one of future Hall Of Famer Randy Johnson, warming up to pitch in a game in which he got the crap kicked out of him by my Mets. They were one of the two teams playing that didn’t leave New Yawk [when I was 11] to carpetbag to SF. Least we forget, sports fans.
Blog Reconstruction Update
Miraculously, what with the recovery today of the pictures in this post, [cartoons not withstanding. There was no text and I have no idea where they are and which they were… and this does not at all please me.] I’ve pretty much restored the fucker.
Last Thanksgiving week, my password was stolen, and the blog deleted. Thankfully [pun intended], the text part was easily recovered within the first few days. Not so the pictures [gone from the wordpress system]. I found them on the computer, and then tediously, painstakingly, lovingly, gladly, [sometimes] sadly matched them up to 400 some odd blog posts. Hundreds of pictures. Hours of work.
I needed a full time/part time job like a moose needs a hat rack. That said, and although I will never, ever again talk to [let alone forgive]the people responsible, I’m deriving great satisfaction from the completion of said task…
Curtis Granderson’s Larceny…
… robbing Cleveland’s Grady Sizemore, was as good a regular season catch, given the circumstances [he saved a 1-0 game for the Tigres, a team I’ve been rooting for in the AL, and pitcher Tom Verlander], as I’ve ever seen. In a week where Baseball suffered their eightieth black eye [what with the suspension of Manny Ramirez], and their eighty first black eye by allowing A-Roid to return, unpunished, this grab diverted our attention a bit. This is a good thang, because the game is reeling.
Credit To Selig…
… at long last, he deserves some. I’ve been highly [no pun] critical of the man in the past. However, Bud Selig on behalf of MLB has taken a stand, for the first time, by suspending Manny RamirezĀ for his transgressions. Congrats!!
Let’s join Bud and the good [but not great] Sister Mary Zig in a moment of prayer for the future of our game…also, that the commish’s [unprecedented] clear decision making streak continues beyond one in a row.
A Weekend With Tom Lehrer
Well, not actually with the retired, 81 year old Harvard mathematician/genius satirist. Better yet, I revisited his work.
