The Yankees in The Zone 10/22/22
Jack and Robert discuss the first two games of the ALCS in Houston where the Yankees offensive struggles in the Postseason continues.
In Games 1 & 2, New York struck out 30 times in 54 AB’s, which is more than half their AB’s!
The players who are struggling the most at the plate include, Josh Donaldson (.227/.393/.273/.666) who left 4 runners on base in his first 2 AB’s in Gm. 1 (including runners on 2nd & 3rd with 1 out) against a shaky Justin Verlander to begin the game. Donaldson also has 11 strikeouts in 22 AB’s.
Matt Carpenter, who missed over 2 months at the end of the season due to a broken foot, has struck out in all 7 AB’s so far this Postseason. He looks like a player who hasn’t faced live pitching in over 2 months, but with injuries to other players on the team, Boone is forced to play Carpenter out of necessity.
Both Kyle Higashioka & Jose Trevino have seen their bats go cold during this Postseason. Between the two of them, their hitting .033 with 11 strikeouts in 21 AB’s!
We also touch on other players like Aaron Judge, Giancarlo Stanton, Anthony Rizzo, and Harrison Bader.
We discuss the importance of Gerrit Cole’s start in Gm. 3, and how the Yankees need to capitalize on playing at home in Yankee Stadium with the hopes of evening up this series at 2-2.
